With production sets closed down all over the world with no sign of them reopening anytime soon, fans of ‘The Purge’ franchise should be pleased to hear that filming of the latest installment finished before the crisis hit.
The Purge has become one of the biggest horror-thriller franchises since it began back in the summer of 2013, and there are no signs that fans are getting bored with it yet.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fifth installment in the franchise is titled The Forever Purge, with rumors stating the film is still set for its July 2020 release.
The rumor mill surrounding this fifth installment suggests that instead of the usual metropolitan environment it will take fans out of their comfort zone even more so than before, whilst still keeping to class and race, sound intriguing.
What started as a small-budget franchise back in 2013 it now has a huge cult following.
When The Purge hit movie theatres in 2013 it followed a wealthy family being held hostage after they hid a man targeted by the murderous group event.
The second movie. The Purge: Anarchy, saw three groups of people left stranded on the streets during Purge Night.
The third movie. A presidential candidate is targeted as she vows as part of her election manifesto to have Purge Night removed, a bad decision so it turns out.
The fourth and most recent movie in the franchise was called The First Purge and took us back to the origins of Purge Night and rewarded survivors the sum of $5000 if they stayed on the island.
Now add the ongoing television series which has two seasons completed the number of people following the franchise rises every day.
James DeMonaco who is the writer, as well as director of most of the movies, was pretty green when the Purge’s franchise first started.
He had no idea how people would respond to the movie but the numbers show he certainly found a gap in the movie market and the rest is history.
