It turns out that showering on a daily basis isn’t the healthy habit we thought it was. Showering on a daily basis strips away the moisture from our skin. In turn, our skin becomes dry, rough and is more prone to irritations and redness. Some people might hear this and be utterly disturbed. I had to train myself (and my hair) to learn to only shower every three days or so. But on the flip side, some people out there might take this way too far in the opposite direction. So how long can you go without showering? A day or two maximum?
Turns out there is a man who hasn’t bathed in over six decades.
Amou Haji is an 87-year-old man and he hasn’t taken a bath in 67 years!! He lives in Dejgah, a village in the Kermanshah province of Iran. He is always covered in ash and dirt. One look at him will leave you wondering how anyone could go that long unbathed. He believes that if he bathes he will fall ill. He hasn’t taken a bath for nearly seven decades because he is scared of the water making him sick!
His diet consists of rotten meat of dead animals, especially porcupines. He also enjoys smoking but it is not tobacco he prefers. He likes to smoke animal feces out of a rusty pipe.
According to Tehran Times, Haji decided to live an isolated life after he went through some emotional setbacks in his youth.
He wears a war helmet not to fight off enemies but to keep him warm during winters.
Even more unusual (if that is even possible) is where he lays his head at night. He finds unusual places to live, like a hole in the ground resembling a grave, or an open brick shack built by people who felt bad for him. He drinks five liters of water every day from a large rust tin can and trims his hair by burning them over a fire.
Amou Haji is a one in a million kind of guy. There aren’t many people in this world who could live the way he does. But while we do now know that daily showers aren’t the healthiest for your skin. We would never recommend taking it to the level he has. Three days max would do the trick.
