With Halloween right around the corner its time to make your bucket list of spooky activities. On my list and possibly even number one has to be the unique and spooky Lockport Cave & Underground Boat Ride near Buffalo. The attraction is waiting for you just three hours west of Utica if you dare. On this amazing adventure, you will explore the Erie Canal Locks that were constructed in 1842. Gliding through tunnels past stalactites, flowstone, various geological formations, and other artifacts left behind by the men who built the tunnel all those years ago.
The Halloween boat tours have been for over 40 years and were even showcased on TV’s Ghost Hunters show! Ther experience is sure to be one of a lifetime and something you will not soon forget. They do have a few guidelines and rules you need to know about. Listed right on their website they are as follows.
-Reservations must have a minimum of 2 to book
-Tours are 80 min. and depart from the Cave Office
-Ample free parking is available
-Please be ready approximately 15 minutes before departure
-No one under 8 yrs of age
-No backpacks, shoulder bags, purses, handbags or animals are allowed on the tour
-This a rain or shine event. Come prepared for the weather
Their Facebook page has any other information that you may need. They even offer a detailed description of what you can expect to encounter.
“Your tour guide will lead you by lantern light along the dark waters of the Erie Canal, telling you folklore, tales, and hair raising stories as you prepare to enter the forbidden tunnels and caves under Lockport.
The cave is 55 degrees year-round, so you can factor that into your choice of apparel.”
So grab a comfy sweatshirt and get ready for one of the most memorable rides of your Halloween season!
