Keeping A Jasmine Plant In Your Room Can Reduce Anxiety, Panic Attacks And Depression, Says Study

Research led by Hanns Hatt of the Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, found that the aroma of Jasmine did help relieve anxiety. In fact, he found that jasmine “can be seen as evidence of a scientific basis for aromatherapy.”

During his research, he studied the effect of Jasmine essential oils and the actual plant on mice and it showed a positive calming effect on the mice.

Further research on humans showed that when the fragrance of Jasmine was inhaled the study group had a sense of calm.

Jasmine contains the chemical known as GABA which affects moods. When the GABA was released it triggered the nerve cells in the human body that relieves anxiety.

“We have discovered a new class of GABA receptor modulator which can be administered parenterally and through the respiratory air,” Hatt explained. “Applications in sedation, anxiety, excitement, and aggression relieving treatment and sleep induction therapy are all imaginable.”

The study found that Jasmine can have the following effects:

The study carried out a comparison between anxiety-relieving medication and the natural use of Jasmine and it found that Jasmine was five times more powerful than the medications previously used.

Just using a few drops of Jasmine essential oil was found to aid with better sleep, increased the person’s concentration and did in fact help in cases of mild depression and anxiety.

According to Kaliana.com, “Research at Wheeling Jesuit University by Dr. Bryan Raudenbush, assistant professor of psychology, shows dispensing jasmine odor into a room where participants were sleeping led to greater sleep efficiency and reduced sleep movement.”
