How To Make Your Own Scented Wax Melts

Wax melts are amazing!!

They are scented pieces of wax that are melted in a warmer and release a fragrance that is much stronger than scented candles and the aroma lingers much longer too.

Melts are also a great way to test out different scents without investing in several expensive candles that you may ultimately not like.

The difference between candles and wax melts is that with melts the was doesn’t evaporate only the scents dissipates and the great thing is you can then reuse the wax to make more melts.

They are very easy to make using very little ingredients. You can use either Soy wax or beeswax you will find both methods below and both are as equally easy to use.

How To Make Wax Melts – Method 1

Soy wax flakes

Rosemary essential oil

Lavender essential oil

Mini silicone ice tray

Empty tin can

Small saucepan

You can use any type of mold that will make small, one-inch size pieces.

Fill the tin can with enough spy wax flakes that will fill your mold, you will need twice as much for the total volume of the mold. The best way to work this out is to fill your molds with water, then pour the water into a measuring cup to check the volume then double it and that will be the amount of soy wax needed. You will have a small amount of wax left over because liquid vs. solids does not fully equate in measurement, but you can reuse it so nothing will be wasted. Heat the wax in a double boiler until melted.

When the wax has melted, allow it to cool for a few minutes. Add about 20-30 drops of your chosen essential oils to the wax. For this recipe split 50% rosemary and 50% lavender.

Pour the wax into the mold and let it solidify.

Once the wax is solid, pop it out of the mold, and store in a mason jar or similar.

To use: Place wax melts in a wax warmer and enjoy.

How To Make Wax Melts – Method 2

Saucepan

Glass or metal bowl

1/4 cup beeswax pastilles

1/2 cup coconut oil

100 drops of essential oil(s)

Silicone mold

Into a saucepan add two inches of water and bring to a simmer. Add in the beeswax and coconut oil into the glass or metal bowl if you don’t have either available use a measuring jug, then place over the pan of simmering water. Once the beeswax and coconut oil has completely melted and is well combined, remove from the heat.

Add the essential oils of your choosing you can use a combination of oils to create your preferred scent. Adding 100 drops does sound a lot but keep in mind this does make multiple wax melts, give a good stir to combine.Pour into your silicone mold, molds of about 1-inch cavities make the best-sized wax melts.
